Amphibians Breathe With Lungs
The reptiles lung has a much greater surface area for the exchange of gases than the lungs of amphibians.
Amphibians breathe with lungs. By the time the amphibian is an adult it usually has lungs not gills. The lungs of amphibians are simple saclike structures that internally lack the complex spongy appearance of the lungs of birds and mammals. Tadpoles are frog larvae.
About 10 to 25 can be done through the skin. At a later stage of life amphibians develop lungs and legs and move out of the water to live on land. Most amphibians breathe with lungs as larvae and with gills as adults.
Do toads have gills or lungs. Like all amphibians toads breathe through their skin as well as with their lungs. Contraction of the atria forces blood into the single ventricle the pumping chamber of the heart at separate times.
Most amphibians however are able to exchange gases with the water or air via their skin. Tadpoles and some aquatic amphibians have gills like fish that they use to breathe. Amphibians live on land and in the water.
Amphibians are the first true vertebrates with four limbs. No matter how big or small the mammal is they always use their lungs to inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. There are a few amphibians that do not have lungs and only breathe through their skin.
Amphibians are cold-blooded animals that are able to live both in water and on land. Terrestrial means on land. The amphibian tadpole resembles a fish.
