Cat's Eye Nebula Age
The Cats Eye Nebula was discovered by Herschel in the late 18th century.
Cat's eye nebula age. It is similar in appearance to the Cats Eye Nebula and the Ring Nebula whose size age and physical characteristics are similar to the Dumbbell Nebula varying only in its relative proximity and the. Herschel was a German-born astronomer who emigrated to Great Britain at age 19. There he built himself a telescope and started to study astronomy.
Heres my image of the Cats Eye Nebula NGC 6543 in Bi-Colour HαOiii. The Cats Eye Nebula. The Discovery the Cats Eye Nebula.
The nebula was discovered by William Herschelon February 15 1786 and was the first planetary nebula to be observed with a spectroscope by William Hugginsin 1864. A planetary nebula is the glowing gas ejected during the final stages of evolution of a star similar in mass to our Sun. The full beauty of the Cats Eye Nebula NGC 6543 is revealed in this new detailed view from NASAs Hubble Space Telescope.
The central star will continue to expand for another 10000 years give or take just a tiny fraction of its total lifespan until the central star runs out of atmosphere. Known as NGC 6543 it is located 3300 light years from Earth in the constellation Draco. High-resolution images from the Hubble Space Telescope revealed extraordinary structures such as nodes jets and arch-like features.
Previously this was thought to be composed of stars. Though the Cats Eye Nebula was one of the first planetary nebulae to be discovered it is one of the most complex such nebulae seen in space. The Cats Eye Nebula was first observed on February 15 1786 by William Herschel.
I took this over two nights from Nerpio. A classic planetary nebula the Cats Eye NGC 6543 represents a final brief yet glorious phase in the life of a sun-like star. It has been expanding ever since as can be seen by comparing Hubble images taken in 1994 1997 2000 and 2002.
